Hello,
I have a 2012 server hosted on Hyper-V 2012, the VM has 200GB RAM allocated, this VM serves as the production database server, it has SQL Server 2012 installed on it, I need the 200GB RAM to be managed by SQL Server and not by the file cache.
The problem is that the Cache WS is eating up 80GB of RAM and I don't understand why because this server doesn't have the File server role on or any other role assigned to it. The Cache WS reaches 80GB in about five days, after that, the SQL Server is very slow. This VM is a fresh install with all windows updates applied and only SQL Server 2012 is on it, no other software or roles/features are enabled.
Can I disable File Cache or limit it in any way? Is it safe to disable it on a production VM Server ?
PS. I have used the same configuration in the past with Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and SQL Server 2008 R2, I didn't have any Cache WS issues, please don't tell me I have to go back to 2008 R2 because it's not possible in my case. I need a solution for the 2012 versions. Thanks.
