DFS Namespace Migration from Win2K3 R2 to Win2K8 R2

Dear all,

In the past I regularly switched file servers with different hostnames and therefore I once created a namespace (\\ mydomain \ fs , please ignore the white spaces) under Distributed File System on one of my two Win2K3 R2 domain controllers, i.e. server1.

In this way the mapped network drives (with namespace notation for example the Accounting share \\ mydomain \ fs \ Accounting ) on the user's client pc's could remain the same even when their personal share had moved to an other file server.

Now I already successfully migrated my domain (Active Directory, DNS, FSMO roles, DHCP, Print Server....) to Windows Server 2008 R2 and I want to get rid of the old Win2K3 domain controllers, but for that I need to get this namespace running on the new DC, i.e. server2.

Can I simply install the DFS Management role on the new Win2K8 R2 DC (server2) and add this server2 as a new Namespace server and then afterwards delete the old Win2K3 server1 as namespace server, so that I can send this old server1 on retirement?
Or is this not the correct way of working? Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Blanchefort
