Event ID: 2019
Source: Srv
Type: Error
Description:
The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty.

so after resarch if found and read below mention link which indicates that it happends due to multiple issues

File Copy using Robocopy

Hi,

I am trying to migrate a file server from 2003 to Windows 2008 R2, we have couple of drives and i have moved the all the data using Robocopy with NTFS Permission. I have an  share in drive where i dont have full permission on most of the directories & files when i am trying to migrate those data but it's failing.

i tried to take a full permission/Owner ship using xcalcs but i am getting waring on the directories/files that "The permissions on subdirectory_name are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective"

help & suggestion is highly appreciated!

Thanks,

Karthikeyan

DFS Namespaces Across Multiple Domains

Here is my domain Environment Currently.

1. DFS Replication = Working

DFS.Local

ATL.DFS.local

Server1

NYC.DFS.local

Server2

NPB.DFS.local

Server 3

1. DFS Namespace

dfs.local

Server1.dfs.local Hosts:

\\dfs.local\dfs

I need this namespace to this server in this child domain to host.

Server1.atl.server.local

dfs.local\dfs

According to Microsoft it doesn't work.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh341474(v=ws.10).aspx

No. All namespace servers (also known as root targets) for a given domain-based DFS namespace must be in the same domain.

But IT guy says I am wrong.

Cannot remove a DFS share on Server 20003 R2

Hi,

I’ve followed the steps in the techent articles Replacing DFSR Member Hardware or OS (great series BTW) and have added a new member (2008 R2) to the replication group, removed the old server (2003 R2) from the replication group, and the new/amended replication group is running fine.

We’re just using DFS for replication, no namespaces.

I’m now at the stage of deleting the old DFS share from the removed member but when I do it says;

“An error occurred while trying to delete the share %sharename%. The share must be removed from the Distributed File System before it can be deleted.”

I never set this server\DFS up but I’m guessing it’s to do with the “Distributed File System” icon on the server desktop. When we open this it has a reference to”

\\contoso.com%share_we_moved

And one of the 2 root targets listed for the above is for the server on which we want to delete the DFS share.

If I run to \\contoso.com%share_we_moved it takes me to the old share I want to decommission.

Can I just go ahead and safely “delete root” in in Distributed File System for \\contoso.com%share_we_moved

We use this newly migrated share for storing documents and the only way they are accessed is a direct patch e.g. \\server\share.  As mentioned we’re just using the DFS for replication.

Also, just curious,  why would we have these 2 DFS management "systems" on the server?  Maybe it was upgraded to R2?

Thanks in advance

Doubts after deploying DFS.

Hello everyone.

Implemented on a client DFS on 2 Servers Domain Controllers, and the old file server is currently the Primary DC with all FSMO rules replicating to other DC Member Secondary Server.

I have 2 questions regarding DFS.

1) Users are complaining they are not getting the message more open file in eg Excel file when another user opens the same spreadsheet, which creates conflict because always the last to close the file is updated more, the procedure DFS is or have the same setting so that it appears the message file opened by another user?

2) Another thing I need to do the test off the DC Primary Server DFS so that the second takes the place of the DC Primary so that files get online it will work?

Thanks to all who respond.

NTFS limitations; changing cluster size on spanned volume Windows 2003 Server

I have a Windows 2003 Server SP2 that has 3 volumes C: (boot) D: (data) E: (spanned data volume), E: is the one this question is about, currently this is a spanned NTFS volume containing 9 disks and is 15.8TB is size, the volume I believe was originally created with the default cluster size (4KB I believe is default) and if this is true it will not extend beyond 16TB as currently allocated.  Is there a way to change the cluster size without reformatting; or recreating the entire spanned volume without losing or having to backup or restore all of the data?

Anyone know what this error is from and how to fix it?

Windows server 2012 UAC Folder problem

$

Hi.

There was anoying feature (some call it bug) when Windows 2008 R2 UAC blocks folder acces if You are member of local Administrators group and NTFS ACL is allowing only Adminitrators and other users /groups, but not You. There was possible to avoid this via turning off UAC and rebooting computer.

Now, with Windows server 2012 (RTM, VL) problem is worse. You can turn off UAC (and reboot,i hope it does full reboot) but nothing changes. Still You are prompted

"You don't currently have permissions to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder.   Continue(with Shield mark) Cancel"

And if i click continue, my account is added to folder ACL.  Havent found any way to bypass it.

This is idiotic. If we have multiple admisnitrators every admin SID is added (at some point). And people are coming and leaving - and ACE's remain. And btw - how it is related with "Use groups for granting permissions" best practice ? Only way is to create "File Administrators group" , make administrators member of this group and add this group to ACL. Lot, of lots of pointless work.

Dear MS - how should we resolve it? Any secret policy/registry key, hotfix coming ?

Administrator Access Denied to Roaming Profile User Folders in Server 2008

$

We have a Server 2008 domain setup with Roaming Profiles for the users.  I allow Windows to create the folders when the user first logs in.  The Roaming Profiles work great and the users can access their network user folder, but the Administrator does not have access to the user folders.  I get the message "You don't currently have permission to access this folder." when logged in as Administrator and accessing the user folders.  If I look at the folder properties it has "Unable to display current owner." listed as the owner.  I have tried to take ownership of the folder and then give it back to the user, but then the user is unable to access it.  I then have to delete the folder and let Windows recreate it then the user can access it again but not the Administrator.  Administrator has Full Control and is the Owner of the "Users" folder that the users are in.

So far I have only setup 5 of the 50 users and have not setup a backup yet, but I'm afraid this is going to cause problems with the backup as well.

Thanks for your time!

Can i just copy paste everything in a maintence window or do i need some kind of tool?

I want to be flexible in my disk space. that is the most importent thing.

Distributed File System DFS Mistake

$

I am new to Distributed File Systems and was testing some configurations out to see how it worked, and I figured out Rule #1 of DFS:

  • Do NOT DFS use a Namespace name that already exists as a network share.

I created a namespace in DFS and was going to link some specific folders from a share so i gave the Namespace the same name as the share.  I did not realize that network shares were published as \\domain\share\ as well \\server\share\.  Now I have this share that does not allow access to anyone.  I can see the folder exist on the server and I can access it.  I can also access it from the drive hidden share [\\server\c$\folder\].

I am not sure where to look to fix this.  I have deleted and namespace and uninstalled DFS from my server.  Now when I try to access it, it says I don't have permission.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Server 2003 storage limits

I have a server running 2003 SP1 & sql 2005.  My data drive is out of space.  Adding another hdd to the raid controller will bring me to the limit of the raid controller and the server limit of 2TB.  One suggestion I've seen is to move the data to a NAS device.  If I get a 4 or 8 TB NAS device, would Server 2003 be able see and utilize all the storage?

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Cannot Connect to NFS from Windows 2008 R2 with Services for NFS Installed

I have a SAN that allows me to create NFS shares. The settings are pretty sparse, but this is what I have setup:

  • Name: test
  • Description: test
  • Quota: off
  • Access (IP of client) 10.1.30.101
  • Read Only: off
  • Write Asyn: on
  • Root Squash: off
  • Anon UID: blank (unavailable)
  • Anon GID: blank (unavailable)

I have a new Windows 2008 R2 Standard server, with all updates, and Services for NFS installed. In Services for NFS management console, I can see both the Client for NFS and the Server for NFS icons and both services are present and started in the Services management console. At this point, I should be able to give a UNC path for the NFS share for a connection. In the Run line I enter \\Cluster1\test. The result is an error window that reads, "An unexpected error occurred." I am also occasionally finding the following in the application log:

Transfer slowness in Windows 2008 servers

Hi there,
I've got a weird situation:
Have two servers running Windows Server 2008 SP2, 32 bits. They're in the same switch, when I transfer any file from one server to the other one the window "Preparing to copy" pops up and it takes an eternity to "calculate" and nothing happens, the copy is not done.
The curious thing here is if I do the same but from/to a server running Windows Server 2003 to any of my servers running Windows Server 2008 SP2, the copy takes place without any delay. I already used a crossover cable between of these 2008 servers and nothing!.
Any idea what's happening ? Any hotfix ? Workaround ?

RJC

Windows Search/Server 2008 R2

$

I'm confused about Windows search services within the file server role.  I seem to have 2 choices.  Windows Search and the Indexing service.  I have one main file server, 2008R2 that serves the company's document stores.  It says Windows Search is installed but trying to search any of the drives from XP/7 tells me Windows Search isn't installed.  Also, the server manager tells me Windows Search isn't suitable for Enterprise applications.

So what do I use?  Should I be using the indexing service instead?

Thanks!

DFS Replication Group refuses new member

$

with the message "The member is running a client operating system".

But - the member is a domain controller running Windows Server 2008 R2, being one of the namespace servers for that DFS and was member of a previous replication group for this DFS folder, which I deleted yesterday to consolidate DFS after removing the last Server 2003 R2 sharing that DFS folder. Both the wizard and the manual action to add a new member to the replication group reject that server.

The server has been rebooted already, without improvement.

Error from the event log of the server: "The DFS Replication service detected invalid msDFSR-Subscriber object data while polling for configuration information. "

So what can I do besides starting script based replication again?

Best greetings from Germany
Olaf

DFS - Is it possible to refer to a share outside of the local AD site?

$

Is it possible to refer clients to a folder share that exists in another AD site?  I would like to use the DFS namespace throughout my organization for all drive mapping functions and in my branch office I cannot seem to refer them to a share that exists outside of the locally defined AD site.  Is there a different approach I should be taking?

I have already went down the DFS-R path, but due to connectivity issues at the branch site, power outages, and the size of my data, DFS-R quickly crashed and I am unable to rebuild my data store at the branch.

Also, in case anyone cares, I also discovered a critical failure with DFS-N that causes Windows Server 2008 R2 to bluescreen (with latest updates) across servers with different roles.  If you deactivate all DFS targets and the namespace server itself, then use explorer to browse to the UNC path of the namespace - the server immediately crashes.  I did this across a DC, File server, and Exchange server.
