File Server Resource Manager - Report Font Very Small

$

We just upgraded to Server 2008 and added FSRM for reporting.  On the 2003 servers the reports looked fine.  When I have the report format setting set to DHTML or HTML on the 2008 server the font is so small in the report output that it is unreadable.  Any reason why this happens on 2008 and not 2003 and is there any fix to enlarge the font.

DFSR Replication Group missing in action

We have DFSR running between win 2003R2 and Win2008std.
The Hub is a win2008 server and we have 9 spokes. The problem started when i noticed that the topology showed that 1 member was disconnected.
The server was read/write configured but the DFS Management only showed the path from the hub to the spoke and not the spoke to het hub.
I added the spoke path with the following command: dfsradmin conn new /rgname:"Profile Replication" /SendMem:server.domain /RecvMem:server.domain /ConnEnabled:true
The connection was made but at the same point the hub server lost connection with the replication group. I removed the replication group from display and tried to re-add it. The replication group is no longer to find.
I removed the member that i added the path from but the replication group did not return. After browsing the net for ages and checking for a way to solve it i decided to ask here for some idea's.
When i check, in dfs management, the namespace replication is states Profiles: The replicated folder object can not be queried. The replication group Profile Replication cannot be found.
When i check on the win2008 spokes the replication group is still available on the win2003 spokes the replication group is not available. I ran a healthreport against the hub server and that runs without errors.
Used the command --> dfsradmin health new /rgname:"Profile Replication" /refmemname:domain\hubSERVER /domain:domain.local /ReportName:hubSERVERreport-%DDMMYYYY%%HHMM% <--

Anyone some ideas or maybe needs/wants some more info?

Thanks in advance,
André

Best Practice to add storage to a shared resource file share

Can a shared file folder resource be pointed across multiple drives?

I have a Shared file folder and I want to add more storage to the share.

What is the best way to do this?

SMB Share Question

$

Let’s say we have a server named Server1 and another named server2
There’s a share on server2 called \\server2\share.
Now on the client I put Server1 in the host file and give it server2’s IP Address.
So I try to access the share on server2 with\\Server1\share.
The error received is Logon Failure: The Target name is incorrect.
Of course if I use server2’s IP address \\10.10.10.11\Share or\\Server2\Share it works.

I’m guessing for some reason the Target name in the path actually has to match the target name of the server, but why and is there a way around it?

Need to remove deny

Deny has been accidently put on a folder in Server 2012. Even as an administrator we are not able to access the folder. We have tried to take ownership, but because of the explicit deny we are unable to do so. How do we reverse this?

DFS - enable Windows Server 2008 mode

We currently have a mixed 2003/2008 forest and domain. We are migrating to a new 2008 domain but need to get DFS going before we get rid of  the old 2003 DC's. What functionality will we be missing out on by creating the DFS without 'Server 2008 mode'? I've read the articles saying,

Windows Server 2008 includes the ability to create a domain-based namespace in Windows Server 2008 mode. Doing so enables support for access-based enumeration and increased scalability.

but that doesn't exactly explain what functionality will be missing. I'm hoping someone here can enumerate...

Reattach iSCSI to a new Windows Server

Evening!

I was wondering... We have a windows 2008 R2 enterprise server running our backup software. Which stores it into an iSCSI.

Due to an unfortunate series of events. This server has went down and, it's simple for us to put up another windows server and install our backup software. What i'm worried about is the reattachment of the iSCSI, will it connect correctly and see all of our backup data?

Please advise!

Thank you!

DFSR and nightly resyncs

$

We have an odd issue which has recently started. We have 4 offices connected using DFSR replicating 1,300,000 files. We recently replaced 2 older servers with 2012 standard boxes with two other 2003r2 servers still in place. Everything has worked for 1-2 months however in the last week every night the DFS decides to run some kind of consistency check and I will see a backlog of 1,300,000 files waiting to go from one server to all of the others. The backlog appears every night at 1AM.

So far I have:

Disabled Sophos on the member that generates the backlog

Backup finishes by 21.30

Nothing in the event viewer around this time

No server reboots or updates during this time.

Checking the debug logs, at midnight we start to generate approx 26 debug logs per minute (so I am assuming this is when it starts)

Below is the last log entry before it starts flooding the log with the RefreshRecord entries:

W2K12 Deduplication [Reading Performance]

Hi,

I've just installed a new 2012 DC server which is going to hold Veeam Backups.

So I've created a storage pool around 8TB and created a new volume with deduplication enabled but here comes the issue, my reading speed just dropped for about 85% ( I was around 800MB/s and currently have only 110-140MB/s left... ), what's weird is that my writing speed isn't impacted at all.

The server is clean (no software installed, nothing on the new volume).

If anyone knows what happened, it would be great help!

Best Regards,

Ludovic

Hi

I created one shared folder in Windows server 2008 R2. Under the main folder i created four sub folders & given different access to those folders.

For Example

In Sub folder 1 - Design Dept have full access & Quality dept have read access

In Design dept there are four users, each one created one sub folder as their project name & take share & working.

User 1 created one folder & put their project files & the same can't able to access by user 2. Like that every users are facing problem.

Kindly give the solution

Thanks

Quick file server rundown

Hey guys,

I'm working with a file server and I'm mostly a network guy. I need a quick rundown of exactly how exclusive and read/only access works with a file.

When a file is opened a hidden file is created with a ~ character in front of it. Is this a lock file which stops access by anyone else? Also how does the applications know to open just a read-only file?

I did some searching and I can't find a real good rundown which explains mutual and exclusive access to folders. Information about session and open file sessions would be great too.

I need this as fast as possible!

Thanks a lot guys!

DFS Replication - Can it act like a back up ?

DFS Replication - Can it act like a back up ?  If the data in the primary location gets deleted I beleive that it would remove the data from the replcaition site as well. But is there way to avoid this and just keep adding new data but not remove/delete data from the replication site. Thanks for your time.

Certain Users Cant save files into the network drives ONLY CERTAIN users

Hi,

we have had a file sharing Cluster with two nodes running on server 2003 on very old machine. I recently built two new machines and transferred the nodes and cluster resources to the new nodes running on2003 R2 and evicted the old nodes after running tests and making sure all the network drives are up and running. However, Now certain selective/random users every once in a while Cant save to the network drives that they normally can. I checked server application event log and what I found is:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: AutoEnrollment
Description:
Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to enroll for one ComputerV2 certificate (0x80070005).  Access is denied.

I believe that is what is causing the issue. however if I restart the cluster nodes sometimes it fixes the issue temporary. this time I just forced the GPO and it fixed the issue but I am sure it will come up again.

Can anyone please guide me on how to permanently fix this issue??? is that error log message is the issue???

thanks a bunch

Folder security tab

We have a small domain here with a file server. no users here are on the domain. i have permissions set up for each folder for the users to use, but an issue i see is people can still see the security tab and edit it. if they try to edit it it says access is denied, but it still goes through after its closed out. i was able to get the security tab blocked, but then no one had permissions to R/W in their folders. any help would be great

thanks,

Images becoming corrupt through shared areas

Hello,

I'm experiencing a strange problem where images become corrupt when accessing the shared area from another server.

File server (W2K12) is on the *.*.2.0/24 subnet and on the int.domain.co.uk domain (Child)
The other server (W2K12) accessing the shared folder is on the *.*.1.0/24 subnet and on the domain.co.uk domain (Parent)

I have set the permissions so that I can access the shared folder from the other server, and the only files so far that seem to be corrupted are image files. I can still 'view' them, but the images are distorted.

JPEG images become discolored and skewed
BMP images have what can be described as 'dead pixels'
GIF images become skewed

This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this, any help would be appreciated :D

Many thanks,

Chris
