Mouting Webfolder on Windows Server 2012

$

Hello Comunity,

I try to mount a Webfolder (Web Client Network?) on Windows Server 2012, but it doesn't work. I get the message

"System error 53 has occured. The network path was not found".

I use this command to mount it

net use \\sharepoint.server.tld\share

If I execute this command on a Windows 7 Client, it works.

Can someone help me?

Note: I've already set the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters BasicAuthLevel to2 on the server.

In a mess over DFS

$

Hi,

I've gotten myself into a bit of a mess. Successfully installed Server 2012r2 on Friday. Raised Forest Functional Level to 2003 so it could become a DC. Spent Friday / Saturday replicating files over to it (I'm aware that DFS on a DC is not ideal. However this is my situation.)

I noticed today that after deleting and recreating namespaces and replication groups that one or two wouldn't go away. Replaced with the red cross. I have 5 namespaces / repl groups. Tried to make some mods to one and made the mistake of googling and trying various fixes, from checking DCDIAG etc and DFSRDIAG POLLAD and more. Culminating in following instructions to manually remove the corrupt entries using ADSI Edit.

4 of the groups are fine, I didn't have to mess with them. But one that I did delete re-appeared on the new server. It shows as Error on the other 3 servers. When I run DFSDIAG /TESTDCS and DFSDIAG /TestDFSIntegrity they come back fine.

At this stage I think I've messed about far too much so I'll just modify login scripts to point the users of the non-functional namespace / repl group to standard shares on one server just to ensure they have access to data and not end up in the further bad situation of people writing to multiple versions of shares.

Is there any way back from this apart from creating a new namespace / repl group and renaming file shares and replicating out again from scratch? Any way to make the new server push out it's, seemingly, still intact namespace / repl group out to the other servers overwriting the errors?

What a mess...

we have all out users setup to map their home drive to \server\user\%username%

Now all the users are just mapping to \server\user   all the my documents from every user are in the root of \server\user.

Fileservice (smb) unresponsive - other service (TCP) available - smbclient event 30809

Problem: Connections to fileshares(smb) on windows 2012 r2 server are suddenly not possible. This server is also a AD DS server and also GPO`s can`t be retrieved by other clients (example w2008 r2 RDS servers).
Rebooting the server will solve it. No 3rd party software on the server.
Seems no relationship with IO intensity. Events are logged outside of the normal working hours and outside of the backup window.

EventId: 30809 - SMBclient is logged on the windows 2012 r2 server.

A request timed out because there was no response from the server.

Server name: \DOM001
Session ID:0x0
Tree ID:0x0
Message ID:0x0
Command: Negotiate
Guidance:
The server is responding over TCP but not over SMB. Ensure the Server service is running and responsive, and the disks do not have high per-IO latency, which makes the disks appear unresponsive to SMB. Also, ensure the server is responsive overall and not paused; for instance, make sure you can log on to it.

server 2012 running at 100% Highest Active Time contineously

I set up a new server 2012 R2 and the server is very slow. CPU and RAM usage is low but the Resource Monitor shows that Disk is 100% for "Highest Active Time" on the 10MB/S scale, while Disk I/O is relatively low.  I suspect this is why the ten Pastel clients are timing out continuously.  Even with just one or two clients logged in and maybe just running an average sized report, the server seems to be bottle necking with the storage system.  When I installed Windows, I installed Intel's latest driver.

I have read various posts and am quite puzzled as what to do about it, there were posts about changing Stripe size of the RAID for to suit SQL and disabling Write Caching on the drives.

Server hardware:

Intel S2400SC-2

3x WD Black SATA 1TB

Using the Intel RSTe embedded software RAID 5

16GB RAM

Software:

Server 2012 R2 64bit

SQL Express 2012

Thanks

"I/O Other Bytes" by the system process is too high

Hello everyone

the description of the performance counter "I/O Other Bytes" is "The number of bytes transferred in input/output operations generated by a process that are neither reads nor writes, including file, network, and device I/Os. An example of this type of operation would be a control function. I/O Other Bytes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles are not counted."

what I simply want to know how to identify this transferred data source and destination?

Thank you

Volumes disappeared from DFS replication

Hi all,

Recently I set up DFS replication on Windows 2012 Std Server. Few days ago I tried to connect the 3rd server to this replication and found out that all volumes except C:\ drive are disappeared from DFS replication on the main server, so it can't do initial replication.

When I go to DFS snap-in and create Diagnostic report for the replication - it shows me available volumes on every server - C:\ drive only for the main one and all volumes for other servers. Shares on the main server are up and running without any problems.

So the question is how to add the volumes back to DFS replication, any ideas?

Kind regards,

Artem.

Our new (not yet production) file server (W2k12) crashed last night due to an access violation in dfsc.sys. Afaik it happened the first time, but I am not totally sure. I also was unable to find out whether this is a common problem with a known fix. Windbg output is:

Break File cluster - keep the data and shares

$

Hi All,

there is a request to un-cluster a 2 node file cluster not just by degrading it 1 node cluster but remove the cluster feature completely while keeping the data and shares, in other words make it a single file server host.

Operating system is Windows 2003 R2 x86.

The high level plan is to :

1. Backup file shares/registry on the 1st node.

2. Evict 2nd node from the cluster and shut it down. This will be used as a spare hardware.

3. Un-present SAN disks from evicted 2nd node.

4. Evict 1st node from the cluster + uninstall/remove clustering.

5. Restore file shares+permissions to 2nd node

My question is how to effectively do the step 1 and 5?

What tool/command to use? Is there any official KB for this? Should this be done by some part of registry export/import? If yes how exactly and are shares stored in registry in different place in comparision to non-clustered server?

Thank you.

No more connections available to this remote computer...Urgent Help for File server...

Hi Guys,

I need urgent help regards to our school File server which is having "No more connection to this remote computer error"

on SMB Shares where I usually authenticate with a domain username it used to work fine since till 3 weeks ago.

Now I can browse the SMB shares with only IP... Netbios gets straight away this error message from non-domain joined pc's where the computer needs to connect to the SCCM distribution point on this file server.

Strangely, Domain joined pc's does not have this problem at all they can use Netbios or IP no problem at all. But someone from a standalone laptop or desktop who needs to access shares through netbios gets this message.

Can someone help me please?

I did check DNS yet there is no problem on DNS I checked PTR record for the server to make sure it is not turned in to multihome accidently but nothing at all.

I also did a NETMON where I captured the data from server and the client I get these errors:

Strange DFS-R error

Windows 2008 R2

The DFS Replication service failed to replicate the replicated folder at local path f:\FolderName because the local path is not the fully qualified path name of an existing, accessible local folder.

Created a new Replication Group.  The replication is between 2 servers.  We already have replication working fine among other servers.  I did some research on this error and what I mostly found was in other cases this error started after a drive letter was changed.  Our problem started right from the start, after creating the new Replication Group.  The only difference between this new RG that is getting this error and all the other RG's that we have working fine is;  I don't have DFS targets for these 2 replicated folders.  But I don't believe that's necessary.

This error is seen in the DFSR event logs on the secondary member in the RG.  On the primary member I get this in the event logs:  The DFS Replication service initialized the replicated folder at local path e:\FolderName. This member is the designated primary member for this replicated folder.

Which is good, but it should then start to show some more messages regarding replication.

If I run dfsrdiag replicationstate on the secondary member it is showing updates.  Which is odd, considering the error message.

I tried deleting and recreating the replication group.  No go.  I know it is configured correctly.  The permissions look good.

Anyone seen this error before, and know what the fix is?

Webdav and performance

Hi,
I have some questions about webdav. We are about to use Webdav to access files for our application that is a Client-Server application. We are using quite lot of files access. Everything is working so far, we developt so that our application map a connection to the webdavserver and then we use that connection to access the files on the server from the client. Now to my question...
Is there any guide of how to tweek settings for webdav to increase performance when you use webdav as a "File" server. I have looked everywhere, but I can't find anything like best practices or how to get best performance in webdav. The only thing I found is a list of the settings and what the settings do but nothing like "How to get best performance"...please help.

Windows 7 users struck at log on screen as their Home Drives on a Server 2012 were not accessible.

Hi team,

We had massive outage to user's logging on to their PC's and were struck at the log on Screens - Usual suspects were

DC - authentication was working as other sites were not having any issues

DHCP- was leasing addresses.

Network Connectivity-switches\routers - All UP and no unusual operation.

That leaves/narrows it down to - their H:drives on a server 2012 box - even here i was able to log on as normal with no issues - was able to connect to the shares and all user permissions were intact. All user incidents reported had their home drives pointing to this server. A management decision was made to bounce the box and  surprisingly this came back good after the box was back UP again.

My Question - what/where do i look for in the event viewer to narrow down on what exactly was going wrong on the server that it would not allow connections for users logging in while all other resources/services on the same server are responding normally?

Windows Server 2012 R2 - iSCSI Server lost multiple devices after patching.

Today 12/16/13 I ran a windows update on a lab Windows Server 2012 R2. which is being used for iSCSI. After rebooting I lost 6 of the 10 devices established. All of these devices are provisioned off a local drive in a single folder where all of the vhdx's still exist.

When I try to import the devices back I am told: Unable to import the virtual disk. A virtual disk with that file path already exists.

First I do not understand why the disks disappeared, as the eventlog states that they were successfully initialized but they are not listed. I understand that I can relocate the vhdx's and then import but I need to understand what happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. As, how could I look to implement a solution that has the possibility to loose data or at a minimum access to the data contained within?

Ricoh Aficio MP C2051 Scan to Folder - Windows Server 2012 Error: Authentication with the destination has failed check settings

I have recently upgraded a clients servers to Windows Server 2012 & since doing so have lost the ability to scan to folder.

Both servers are domain controllers and previously on a 2008 domain controller I would have had to make the following change to allow scan to folder:
 Administrative Tools
 Server Manager
 Features
 Group Policy Manager
 Forest: ...
 Default Domain Policy
Computer configuration
 Policies
 Windows Settings
 Security Settings
 Local Policies
 Security Options
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always)
 - Define This Policy
 - Disabled

However I have applied this to the Windows 2012 server but am still unable to scan, possibly due to added layers of security in server 2012. The error on the scanner is Authentication with the destination has failed check settings.
I have also tried the following at the server:
Policies -> Security Policies
Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit
I have created a user account on the server for the ricoh and set this in the settiings of the Ricoh and verified everything is correct.

Are there any other things I have missed?

Access Based Enumeration on CAD /Design Files 2008 R2

Hi,

I'm currently having some issues with our Windows Server 2008 R2 File Cluster, where the System Process is chugging along @ 80-95% CPU, which I personally find strange. After 2-3 hours of this type of resource utilization, we experience a failover to our passive node. After a few hours of user connectivity and build it the same thing happens again.

Using ProcessExplorer I have been able to identify the srv2.sys driver having massive amounts of threads being created, with several running at 10-15% + CPU utilization per thread. srv2.sys driver is for SMBv2 Connectivity from my research and troubleshooting of these issues.

I have had a ticket opened with MS Premier Support and I have completed installing all of the latest srv2.sys file updates to the latest version for 2008 R2, but we still seem to be having the issues, although it is intermittently. One of these fixes was in relation to enabling Access Based Enumeration to a certain level within your File System/Structure (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2732618/en-us)

Other hotfix installed is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2831154/en-us

We have users who run multiple image and CAD applications (Adobe InDesign, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit etc) across our network drives, as well as what I would call "standard" File Server access (word docs, spreadsheets, PDF's, powerpoint presentations etc).

We have ABE enabled across all volumes.

At the moment, I am praying for the server to again reach 100% CPU capacity due to the System Process using these resources.

What I was wanting to ask is, are there any known issues with using Access Based enumeration of Drives for users/applications that use these InDesign/AutoCAD like applications?

The reason I ask this is that when we experience this issue I notice more activity on our volumes that host these CAD/Design files, compared to when we experience a period of stability on the system.

I have read on a few articles regarding Microstation that if it is a specific version, that you should disable SMBv2 via registry to revert to SMBv1 for better use/stability. I am going down the path of disabling SMB2 for all users who use these CAD applications to see if this assists in resolving the issue, but I'm trying to explore all  other options/potential issues to better configure our File Cluster

Looking for guidance on troubleshooting this issue further.

Thanks in advance.

WS2012R2 Datacenter Hyper-V hosts with WS2012R2 Fileservers (SMB & Infiniband) Failed to modify device "virtual hard disk" on all VMs

Hello everyone.

We have a setup with 4x hosts running WS2012R2 Datacenter Hyper-V towards 2x Fileservers WS2012R2 connected to a shared JBOD. All of the servers communicate over infiniband.

We run the Hyper-V over SMB with RDMA on a CSV volume that has deduplication enabled.

We were so happy that Window server 2012 R2 was released recently so we upgraded right away and finnaly things were stable , no longer any spamming errors of hard disks in use or bsoding hosts! All have been great since the release but something happened this weekend without any of us doing any changes.

All of a sudden my System Center 2012 VMS running SQL clusters with the new "Shared VHDX" feature failed. I started to investigate the problem and it seems that we cannot "change or edit" any virtual hard disks on our entire VM share. If i try to use advance features and change to shared vhdx it fails, it does not matter if its a new vm i create or a old one.

I need some help with this, I feel clueless to why it happened or how to fix it?

Thank you,

Marcus

Windows 2003 Network Shares Innaccessable

Hi

We have a Windows 2003 R2 server housing half of our user profiles and some network shares.  Today, the network shares became inaccessible, causing crashes for our users.  Our other server remained unaffected.

We could ping the server and ping from the server and could still RDP.

The servers performance also appeared unaffected.

MOM and Event logs showed nothing.

We also use Active Directory 2003 and Symantec Anti-Virus 11.5 - Symantec logs showed nothing out of the ordinary either.

We resolved by rebooting the server.

Has anyone experienced this or a similar incident and what steps should we take to glean the best information should the incident re-occur.

Many thanks
