need help with permissions for remote user to execute file

$

I am trying to allow end users to connect to a remote server and execute a batch file through a unc path.  This is a screen shot of the error that occurs when an attempt is made to execute the file.

It seems as though there are some permissions that don't allow the file to execute.  Users have been given full control on this folder and file.  They have been given permission to transverse the folders above this one.  The file does execute if a cmd line connection is used.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Traditional way of allocating Disk Quota and the newer way via File Server Resource Manager

Hi we have disk quota been allocated on drive using the traditional way i.e Right Click Drive -- Properties -- Quota then
Ticked Enable quota managent
Ticked Deny disk space to users exceeding quota limit

Then from Quota Entries selecting the users and the limit.

If I want to use the File Server Resource Manager -- Quota Management, do I have to disable the traditional quota system first?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

[Win 2k3 DFS-R] 4324 MEET 3109 Meet::GetParent -> BLOCKED Could not find parent

Hello,

I currently have a strange situation where I have added several new folders to existing replications groups.  Therefore, some folders are reporting a status of normal, where some are reporting Waiting for initial replication .

For a given folder that is reporting Normal status, if a file is created on the non-primary member, it will replicate the the primary member.  However, if a file is created on the primary member, it will not replicate to the child member.  Keep in mind that this is for a replicated folder reporting a status of Normal , not reporting the status of Waiting for initial replication .

There doesn't appear to be anything strange in the logs reflecting trouble.  Why would the above occur?  Why wouldn't the change replicate in the Normal folder as expected?

In addition to the "content set not ready" errors, I receive the following error on the child member:

20100202 19:43:30.200 4324 MEET  3109 Meet::GetParent -> BLOCKED Could not find parent. parentUid:{225499E9-D466-4CC2-94D9-F2C897D1EBF1}-v14008502 updateName:file.ext uid:{225499E9-D466-4CC2-94D9-F2C897D1EBF1}-v14008806 gvsn:{225499E9-D466-4CC2-94D9-F2C897D1EBF1}-v14008806 connId:{BBDEEF56-3EB8-4FF4-8C59-DECC1642ABF3} csName:REPLNAME csId:{440B02C8-9F51-4A45-9C73-BD2105B47710}

The folder REPLNAME is reporting Waiting for initial synchronization .  What does this error: "BLOCKED Could not find parent" indicate?

Thanks for your time,

Matt Brown

Windows 2012 Deduplication - Access share from Windows XP / 7

Hi,

We're currently working through a support ticket with MS regarding an issue with Windows 2012 deduplication and accessing that deduplicated data via a SMB Share from Windows 7 and Windows XP clients.

What I would like to know is - is this supported? I'm sure I've read that there was no issue with backwards compatibilty, because 2012 handled the "rehydration of data" prior to SMB being involved... (I hope this makes sense).

On the other hand, can anyone point me to some documentation where this is shown to be not-supported?

It doesn't make sense to me that a Windows XP client can't open files from a Windows 2012 deduplicated file share. Surely this would be in BIG RED LETTERS on every piece of documentation related to the feature?

Thank you,

Alex Macaronis

Server 2008 R2 iscsi initiator fails to connect to the target after the target reboots

I have several Windows server 2008 R2 systems connected to an iscsi target running ubuntu 10.04. Also have an SBS 2011 connected to the same target. If I reboot the target (the ubuntu system), the Server 2008 R2 iscsi initiators immediately display a status of "inactive" and never reconnects itself, I must do it manually. At the same time, the SBS 2011 system's iscsi initiator shows a status of "reconnecting" and then reconnects by itself when the ubuntu iscsi target comes back up.

Can anyone help me with this? Why does SBS 2011 work as expected and 2008 R2 fails to reconnect? It almost seems like the timeout on server 2008 R2 is way too short. But I checked the registry and it is fine.

It is the exact same problem as this unanswered thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/3c338d51-6812-439e-9d3b-6279007edd50

I've tried the basic disk vs dynamic disk thing and that didn't make a difference.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

File Service migration from Windows 2003 clustered Storage to Windows 2008 R2 storage

Hello everybody,

I'm planning to migrate a clustered file server with two nodes and Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition to a new infrastructure storage with Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition; here there're specifications:

- Old Storage -

- Two Nodes with Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition; cluster service active/passive with several File Share e Disk Resources shared between nodes;

- One Storage based on HP EVA Series, with three LUN's dedicated, (Office, Administration, Call Center);

- File Service with quota management and quota templates installed;

- New Storage -

- Two nodes with Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition; cluster service active/passive

- One Storage based on HP X5000 series, with several enclosure disks;

- File Service with quota management and quota templates installed;

Infrastructures are in the same domain; I would migrate every cluster resources, folders, and quotas from Windows 2003 to Window2 2008 Storage; what're best practices for migration? I should create the three LUN's also in new storage, like old configuration, or I can create a single LUN and then migrate all data inside it?

I would use in Windows 2008 R2 use Cluster Wizard Migration and dirquota tool to export all quotas, and I'm reading this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754481(v=ws.10).aspx

Migration from two storages is totally supported? Anyone know possible issues about it?

Thank you everybody for support

Regards

DFS ABE not working properly

$

Hi,

In our organization there are 1-2% of the users whose DFS Access Based Enumeration is not working. With the reset 98%, DFS ABE works as expected and they only see what they have access to.

These users see all of the folders within the same namespace, but can't access them (as expected). Normally any give user sees less than 10 folders. These few % see all 80 folders and they are frustrated that they have to scroll to find what they are looking for.

I use same group for ABE, Share and NTFS permissions so that shouldn't be the issue, since they can't access the folder even if they see it.

They don't have domain admin permissions, they are normal users.

Since with 98% of the users it works as it's supposed to, DFS and ABE should be fine?

It doesn't matter what computers they use, evey Windows 7 computer they log on to has this issue. So it shouldn't be software issue?

In my mind that just leaves the active directory user account. But what there, that I can't figure out..

Any suggestions on what to do with this?

File server is 2008 R2

DFS is 2008 domain-based namespace and it's on two 2008 r2 ad-servers

Domain functional level is 2008

Clients are Windows 7 SP1

Thanks,
Petrus

ShotCut Error: the driver or network connection that the shortcut".link" refer to is unavailable.Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available

   I have one file server, its OS: Windows server 2008 R2, and create one shortcut to link with certain folders, when one user try to access the shared folder which owns the shortcut, the error alerts: "the driver or network connection that the shortcut".link" refer to is unavailable.Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available".  In the file server, the shortcut works well, nothing abnormal, just happens on the client.

  Who can help me to fix the issue ???

Rebalancing Storage Spaces?

I know that storage spaces doesn't automatically rebalance when you add / remove drives. Is there any way through powershell to manually rebalance?

I don't know if it matters but i'm using ReFS in a parity configuration.

If it isn't possibly what do you do when you run out of space on your pool and add a new drive? If you can't rebalance then you would still be out of space.

DFSR backlog not reducing

I'm concerned with a set up we have for a client. We are looking to replace their on-site file server as it is on its last legs. It replicates to a server in our hosting facility. The two servers are Server 2003 Standard R2 SP2.

There is one replication group with 5 associated folders. There are currently backlogs against 3 of these folders. I have restarted the dfsr service,  there are no events showing indicating any problems and the Health Report only shows the following warnings:

Hosted Server   (3 warnings)    (View Server
Details)

DFS Replication failed to clean up old staging files
for replicated folder DATA.

Premature purging of staging files is impacting
performance on replicated folder DATA.

consuming disk space.

This member is waiting for initial replication for
replicated folder Archives.

We need this to be up to date. There is another server (the replacement) that is in the topology that is only connected to the hosted server. Until this replacement is up to date, there is no point in us providing this to the client.

Could anyone help me with further diagnosis of this?

Access Denied when moving Windws 2003 iSCSI volume to 2008 R2 file server

$

I've been trying to move some iSCSI volumes from an old Windows 2003 file server, to a new Windows 2008 R2 file server, and two of them I just went into the Equallogic management, set the disk offline after disconnecting it from the server, then changing the accesss restriction to the IQN or IP address of the other host, and then connected them on the 2008 host and they worked fine. I've tried now to move 3 more volumes doing exactly the same thing, and when I try to open them on the new file server, I get an Access Denied error. I can look at the permissions on the volume, and domain admins (of which I'm logged in as) have full control and is set as owner. I've checked effective permissions with my account and it shows I should have full access. I've checked the persmissions on the ones that I was able to move successfully and they're the same. I can move the volumes back to the 2003 file server and they come back up just fine. Any ideas?

File/Storage Errors in Server 2012

Hi

We are running Server 2012 (proper, downloaded from licensing portal) and are using it as an NFS server for some of our VM Ware machines.

Yesterday the NFS storage went offline for approx. 15 minutes, and then came back online.  The following errors are found in Event Viewer, these errors appear to have been happening since 21/08 but this the first time the NFS server has gone offline.

This error is found in the Applications Log:

File Server Resource Manager finished syncing claims from Active Directory and encountered errors during the sync (0x80072030, There is no such object on the server.

).  Please check previous event logs for details.

And is accompanied by this error:

File Server Resource Manager failed to find the claim list 'Global Resource Property List' in Active Directory (ADsPath:LDAP://mydc.mydomain.local/CN=Global Resource Property List,CN=Resource Property Lists,CN=Claims Configuration,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydc,DC=local). Please check that the claims list configured for this machine in Group Policy exists in Active Directory.

Additionally the following error appears in the System log, but not at the same time as the above:

The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance.

Our PDC is Server 2003 R2, we have a 2008R2 DC and the 2012 server seems to be authenticating with this DC.  There are no errors on that DC.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello!

We have an SBS 2008 with Folder Redirection on and another simple shared folder.

Now we installed another 2008 R2 Server to be used as additional DC.

We need to setup DFS between the 2 servers. How can we set the existing folders to be replicated via DFS (the Users redirected and the file share).

Best regards

Server 2012 Essentials, Redirected folder quota

$

I recently setup and configure Server 2012 Essentials.

I then invoked the user folder redirection policy.

Everything has been going well until the other day.

one of the users received an error message which indicated that her redirected "MyDocuments" folder had no more space left.

How can I view and increase the quota for an individual users redirected folder?

Robocopy in Server 2012 - /mt switch removed.

I search the internet high and low and find no questions on why this is not operational or working in Server 2012.

Was multi-threading not a useful feature?  Figured I might as well start a thread to hopefully get insight for others that may ask that same question now and in the future.

Technet reference.

Robocopy

/MT[:N]

Creates multi-threaded copies with N threads. N must be an integer between 1 and 128. The default value forN is 8.

The /MT parameter cannot be used with the /IPG and/EFSRAW parameters.

Redirect output using /LOG option for better performance.

Note

The /MT parameter applies to Windows Server 2008 R2and Windows 7.
