Remote storage access on local desktop

Looking for a solution to mount a drive or folder on my local machine without taking up any space. I dont want to use cloud services if possible as I want this drive to be secure. I have a remote machine in my network that would be perfect to use yet im at a loss on what the best possible way to make this work would be.

Machine 1 - Surface (256 GB) storage, so limited

Requirements: Storage needs to appear as a drive or folder, so I can save to the location easily

Machine 2 - Desktop on same network. Plenty of storage

Considerations:

Homegroup, think this syncs files from one drive to another. This maybe a great option just not familiar with how it works.

Owncloud: I believe this works like any cloud storage where the storage takes up local HD space and syncs to remote server. (not what I want)

Help!? Open to any ideas...
