Having trouble w/ DFSR on one server.  Once the replication group is created the DfsrPrivate folder is not created and the log is full of these errors...

328 SRTR   969 [WARN] SERVER_EstablishSession Failed to establish a replicated folder session. connId:{72E65703-9E11-4962-BE59-53E7CFF876B0} csId:{10EE860C-35A0-4C71-B4D3-233094D0166C} Error:

+ [Error:9028(0x2344) OutConnection::TransportEstablishSession outconnection.cpp:454 328 C The content set was not found]

Is there a way to fix the error "the content set was not found"?  Or is this a red herring?  Any help appreciated.

Windows 2008 and ftp services

I have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server, it doesn't have IIS, or any roles or features showing anything FTP related. I don't see anything in services with FTP running.

Yet I can go to the administrator dos prompt and type FTP and get an FTP prompt. How do I turn this off?

Witness Client failed to register with Witness Server error

Hi,

I have a 2 node Cluster with Windows Server 2012 and I've configured a Cluster Role with a File Server Resource. In this file server resource I've configured 3 shares with "Continuous Availability".

I'm getting our event logs flooded with events (on the cluster nodes and on 3 other windows server 2012 clients), regarding SMBWitnessClient. I get two different errors:

- Witness Client received error (The parameter is incorrect.) from Witness Serverip address for NetName Cluster Role Name.

- Witness Client Failed to register with Witness Server Cluster node name for notification on NetName Cluster Role name with error (The parameter is incorrect.)

Anyone seen this?

Carlos Monteiro.

Server 2012 FSRM Quota Reports Not Showing Usernames

Thank you for taking the time to read my question.

I'm using Server 2012 Standard in a lab as a file server (in a 2012 Domain Environment).  Using FSRM I've configured Quotas and File Screening.  When I run a File Screen Audit information is properly populated (e.g. username and file blocked from uploading), when I run a Quota Usage Report it has the proper usage (size used) but the account "using" the space is the Builtin/administrator and not the user(s) that uploaded the data.

FYI...when I run a Files By Owner report the proper usage totals and the users responsible for said usage displays properly.

Any idea why the Quota Report credits the Builtin/administrator with uploading data and not the proper user?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Regards,

Ray

DFSR Replication failure - Errors 9027 and 9028

I started a thread in the Windows General forum but I'm not getting much traction so I thought I'd try here.  This is the last post I submitted:

This evening, I ran the dfsrdiag utility.  The command I ran was:

dfsrdiag proptest /RGName:"mydomain.com\my files\test" /RFName:test /TestFilename:TestFile02.xml /V /Mem:file02.mydomain.com

I ran this command from both File01 and File 02 and on both machines, I ran it with the Mem parameter set to File01 and File 02.  All 4 iterations of the command reported success and the xml file was created on both machines.  An example of the command outpu (ran on File02 targeting File01):

Name:test /TestFilename:TestFile02.xml /V /Mem:file01.mydomain.com
 [INFO] Computer Name: file01
 [INFO] Computer DNS: file01.mydomain.com

 [INFO] RootPath: E:\Test-dfs

[INFO] Execution Time: 0 seconds

But, replication still does not work.  I copied a bunch of files into one of the replicated shares on one machine and they do not appear on the other.  Here is an example of the log entries:

The same error is repeated for each replicated folder.

Any ideas?  There isn't much on this online.  I even went through the lengthy "Understanding DFSR Debug Logging" and, while a good reference, it didn't touch on what errors 9027 and 9028 mean or what causes them.

Thanks

DFS works properly but 12 sec delay to open the referal

Hi

I have the following setup

dc1.domain.local(192.168.1.11) - site1 192.168.1.0/24 - domain controller with DNS
dc2.domain.local(192.168.2.11) - site2 192.168.2.0/24- domain controller with DNS

dfs replication to sync between the two sites.
dfs is set to exclude targets outside the site and this part works fine. I can confirm it by checking on the clients computer (the dfs tab on the shared folder)
The clients are not joined to the domain and simply log in using domain.local\username

I have one namespace

domain.local/namespace

Now the problem :

Every time a client (Vista or Win 7) tries to open the folder domain.local/namespace there is a long delay of about 12 sec.

Initially this delay was about 20 sec , but after reading about the netbios look up issue and I have applpied the suggested fix and now the delay is less , but still unacceptable.

Additionally the client has netbios disabled

I can supply wireshark cap if required.

Managing Server 2012 Core Disk Remotely

Good Day All,

I’m working with Server 2012 Core in a lab environment and I’m having an issue with disk management that makes the process inefficient.

I’ve enabled all the required firewall rules (on both the system being managed and the system running the management tool) so that I’m now able to use Computer Management from a Server 2012 box that has the Full GUI installed.  I can see the disk and make changes, but any changes made to the disk (e.g. bring disk online or initializing disk) will not show in the Disk Management screen unless I close the MMC and reconnect to the server.   As you can imagine that makes the process of configuring disk long and drawn-out.

Has anyone experienced the same issue and if would you be able to suggest a fix or workaround for the issue.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

windows xp clients can't see some files/folders

Hi All

I have very strange problem with file sharing. I have Windows 2008 files server in domain environment and mix Windows XP pro and Windows 7 ultimate clients. All was fine until last week. I had loads of errors on my files server about problems with HDD so i did check disk scan and then i have notice that few Windows XP users can't see some files on share folders. When they log in to Windows 7 computers they can see all the files. I tried everything and still some users on Windows XP can't access files on shared folder. All permissions are ok because when they log on Windows 7 they see all files they have access. Looks like Windows XP explorer is not displaying all files but I don't know why? Please help.

I have Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller and have move the fileshare files to a new Windows Server 2008 R2
The network has both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients. It's only Windows 7 they losing the contact, in network location in the clients

The net disk appear a red cross and error message is ... The local device name is already in use..This Connection has not been...

I have also test a new re-installed a test PC with Windows 7 .. same there...

So we can exclude the fault on The user Profile and folder directions..

The logon script look like that

***********************************************************

net use /d * /y

net use h: \\iw-srv-file\home$\%username% /persistent:yes

rem NetDiskar

net use i: \\iw-srv-file\DSIK1
net use j: \\iw-srv-file\DISK2
net use t: \\iw-srv-file\DISK3
***********************************************************

I have also add on the Windows 7 Clients - "Network security: LAN manager authentication level" to "Send LM & NTLM responses".

Any ideas ?

Server 2012 Dedup not processing anymore?

$

I have configured the dedup to 2 days but I have several files that look the same and are over 2 days that are not getting deduped.

Everytime I start a optimization job manually, the process indicator just stand at 0% and doesn't seem to move. I can see that the system is taking up memory resources.

Is there someway I can see which file the dedup is currently procressing or get more detailed info about the dedup progress?

I have checked the event logs for Dedup service but they don't contain anything helpful.

DFS Replication Bandwidth Savings:
The DFS Replication bandwidth savings are computed by determining the total size of data replicated across the network using a combination of remote differential compression (RDC), which sends only byte-level changes, and stream compression. By comparing this figure to the amount of data that would be replicated across the network if RDC and stream compression were not used, you can determine the percentage of bandwidth saved.
Reduction in WAN traffic: 0 KB
The following table describes the total on-disk size of files that were replicated and compares them to the amount of data actually received over the network with DFS Replication.

WARNINGS (There is 1 warning to report)

This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder DFS.
Affected replicated folders: DFS
Description: This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder DFS and is not currently participating in replication. This delay can occur because the member is waiting for the DFS Replication service to retrieve replication settings from Active Directory Domain Services. After the member detects that it is part of replication group, the member will begin initial replication.

DPM 2012: Insufficient disk space with 3 and 4 TB disks

When using a 2 TB disk as storage pool in DPM 2012 everything works as expected: currently I have 3 servers added for Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) and System State with 300 GB each BMR and 2 times 10 GB and a 20 GB partition on this 2 TB disk configured manually. When I insert a 3 TB or 4 TB disk and attempt the same, Admin Manager complains of having not enough disk space. All disks are dynamic and have only unallocated space, no partitions (the 4 TB has never been used before). Seems like System Center 2012 software cannot detect disks above 2 TB. Why is that so? Could it still be a 512 vs. 2k/4k sector size issue?

Best regards, Marcel

Hi Guys,

I need to help unable to find the missing space from the server. kindly find the details below

Total disk space F : 599 GB

Free space: 8.35 GB

Application data: 549 GB

DataArcTemp: 0

logarc: 615 MB

temp: 30 MB

backup: 48.5 MB  Total data = 549.6 GB

Found that loss around 41 GB

System Volume Information: 0 KB

The disk is formatted with an allocation size of 512 bytes.

Is there any other way to find which is using that 41 GB space in F -drive.

Local administrators group access issue server 2012

Hi

I just upgraded one of my 2008 R2 servers to Windows Server 2012 Standard (No option for fresh install unfortunately) and I'm encountering a strange issue. on one of the logical drives (not the system one) whenever I open an application file (Such Excel) with a Local Admin group member and trying to save it after I made some changes I get access denied. but if I grant the specific user full control on that specific file the problem resolves.

Another thing I noticed is when I try to rename a file (TXT file for example) I get "you'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file" and once I approved it the massage stops to pop.

The server is a physical server and logical drive reside on a separate raid group (FYI)

What are my options?

Change email domain for Source Io Owner

I am testing FSRM on Server 2008, and am able to receive email notification for administrators since I manually entered the email address.  However, when selecting the option to "Send e-mail to user who exceeded the threshold", there is no place to configure the email format.  I understand that the format is account@domain; however, this is grabbing the AD domain, which is not the same as our email domain.  How can I change this so that user account: domain1\user1 receives an email at user1@differentdomain.com?
